I’m right now pfaffing around on my computer. I have email I must weed through before I can do anything, I also have a DVR full of shows that beg to be watched. I didn’t work out today. These other things are just way too important.
Does the above sound like “blah blah blah” to you? Yeah, when I read it back, it sounded like a bunch of silly time-wasting exercises and just plain old excuses. But I swear I REALLY felt this way a moment ago! That was UNTIL I came across this gem that I ripped out of a magazine a while ago. It’s a little article about CNN Anchor Erin Burnett. called, “4 Rising Star Rules Every Woman Should Know.” It worked. Humbled, I’m now writing another blog post.
See, I have goals. Serious goals. I mean, they are lofty. Lof-ty. And I know I can achieve them. But, it’s work.
At the start of the year, I set a goal of doing 1 vlog a month. I really want this blog to take off. I want to reach a larger audience of people to share perspective with and to inspire. In 6 months, I’ve only done 2 vlogs. Yep, 2. Truth is I’ve been having fun, working a lot, and keeping busy in a myriad of ways that don’t honor my goal of making this blog explode.
Maybe there’s a part of me that wants to take the easy way out. Maybe I’m not confident that I can achieve this goal I’ve set. Maybe I’m not disciplined. I honestly don’t know, but I know I need to find out. Writing this blog post is a step in that direction.
So, the next time you’re sitting on your butt doing who-knows-what, instead of reaching for your goals, don’t lie to yourself. If you’re playing video games, admit it. If you need to unwind after a long day, that’s fine. But, for every time you sit and play that game, or clean out that email inbox, or watch a season of RHONY, set aside the same amount of time to reach your goals. It’s amazing what we can achieve when we start down the path.
Thanks for reading. Now, go do.
