It’s not often that I get up on a cold Saturday morning to walk to a workout class, when I have a gym in my building. And it’s not often I blog about a workout class. So, you know this is something pretty special.
305 Fitness is pretty new to DC, and it combines cardio moves with motivation and inspiration, and dancing with a DJ. Did I have you at DJ? Yeah. It’s NYC founder Sadie Kurzban (who’s a bundle of energy, ummmm, understatement much?) was stopping in to DC from NYC this past Saturday to teach the class, and I felt so lucky to have been part of it.
For anyone who loves to dance, this is AMAZING. Confession: If I had the energy and the time, I’d be at a club every night dancing. This class IS like being at a club. Only, you don’t care what you look like, it’s Ok to get sweaty, and you are getting your workout in, rather than the unwanted calories and hangover that comes with drinking.
For 1 hour, we did simple (like, you can do this) dance and cardio moves to songs like Pitbull’s “Fireball” and Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream.” I was drenched. I had to stop a couple of times, but luckily so did my pal Heather, so I didn’t feel badly. It’s a party. Literally. I will definitely go back.
Why am I telling you this? Because I believe strongly you have to try new things and get out of your comfort zone, in order to reap the benefits of improved fitness, and even improved thinking.
That being said, I TRIED a pole dancing class and yeah, I won’t be doing that again (way too tough to do) but I tried it, and that’s all you can ask for!
