Hi Debra! I am truly inspired by your spirit and drive especially in chasing your dreams and fearlessly changing your job to pursue a more altruistic career. I was wondering where you typically get your ideas for stories? Do you seek them out or are you bombarded with emails and tweets requiring you to sift through for the most pressing? Or are the majority of your stories given to you by WUSA9? I have a touching story, or event rather that I would love to put a press release out for to see who may be interested in picking it up, but wanted to ask the most effective way of going about this as today’s world is very media based! Thank you for any advice or suggestions. I sought you out because of your history and interest in heartfelt stories–those that make a difference. I believe mine to be one such story.

Hi Kathryn – Thank you for your kind words, and comment! If you tell me what the story idea is, I’d be happy to give you my honest opinion and advice. My stories are a mix of what I pitch and what I’m assigned, just like most local news reporters. D

Thank you for your response Debra! I am a local committee member of The Paralyzed Veterans of America “Capital Clash” Bass Fishing Tournament, held annually on the Potomac just south of DC. We take wounded soldiers recently admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Hospital out on the water to fish in a two day tournament. It’s a meaningful event that touches each of the soldiers involved as well as the volunteers. I have much more information on the event- If you would like to know more about it, I’d love to share. Kathryn

Hi Kate – I just re-read your post and would love to connect! What’s your email address? Thanks! D

  2. What a great journalist, inspiration and person! Debra, I stumbled upon your website, and could not stop reading. I’m pushing through my first reporting job, and boy it is not easy. But I would have it no other way. Debra, keep up the good work at WUSA. That’s a great shop. I love WUSA’s new look and feel. I interned with Anita and T.J., and boy I had a great time!

Denise – thank you so much for that lovely comment. I totally understand what you are going through. Feel free to reach out and I’d love to see your work. Your perseverance is inspiring!

Debra! I am a brand new fan of your work. Just enjoyed your The Alt Side segment with Giuiliana! I am pushing for answers in the Jesse Matthew cases. WHY does he have a littany of DROPPED charges? The answer may be found in WHY the charges of his first reported attack at Liberty University were dropped. Ditto at his next school. WHY?

Also, could Randy Taylor and Jesse Matthew be in cahoots?

    1. dalfarone says:

Hi Julie – Thank you so much. I appreciate it. I can happily report that Giuliana is as nice and gracious as she is beautiful. 🙂

Regarding Jesse Matthew, no charges were ever filed against him during the two alleged incidents at his colleges, therefore, they were never dropped. Believe me, I’d love to know more about it. I was hoping the 2 women might come forward to talk, but I would have to walk a mile in those 2 ladies’ shoes to begin to understand what they went through. There are a myriad of reasons why only 12% of rapes are ever reported.

Your 2nd question is interesting, I guess we have to wait to see what happens with the DNA testing and social media investigation regarding Alexis Murphy’s case.

Thank you for reading, watching and please stay in touch!

What a brilliant, smart, and talented journalist! I came across your website through your post where you write about how you got your first on-air job, and boy would I love to follow in your footsteps. I’ve now watched through your reel, ALT side, and followed/liked you on virtually evert social media you have here.
It would be an absolute privilege if you were to take a look at my reel and give me some honest feedback and advice–as I am desperately trying, just like you did, to land a job at News 12. Would it be possible to send you my work?
Thanks so much in advance, and I can’t wait to see continue to watch and follow your inspiring career!!!
